2019 was a year of domination for KTM’s Jorge Prado where the young Spaniard demonstrated his talent, dedication and consistency to take his second consecutive FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship title. With 31 moto wins and 16 overalls including 14 1-1 finishes this season, the 18-year-old has been nothing short of exceptional aboard his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing KTM 250 SX-F, which earned its 11th title win from the last 12 campaigns. In celebration of Prado’s incredible year, KTM is pleased to announce the limited edition KTM 250 SX-F PRADO MY2020.

This READY TO RACE machine offers premium components such as Factory triple clamps anodized in orange, a composite skid plate and a Selle Dalla Valle Factory seat. In addition, it has a race-inspired orange frame, semi-floating front disc, a front brake disc guard, an orange rear sprocket, a Regina gold chain and of course Red Bull KTM Factory Racing style graphics with Prado’s number ‘61’ front and rear. For riders who want the sharpest weapon with an exclusive specification, they should look no further than the KTM 250 SX-F PRADO.

“To have a production bike with the number ‘61’ on it is something that you can only dream of as a child – it’s really special and I think it looks great. We’ve had a fantastic season and I’d like to thank KTM for this celebration of our success together. It’s really cool. I am very proud to be part of the Orange family and it’s a big honor to see the KTM 250 SX-F PRADO machine go into production,” confirms Prado

When it comes to a championship-winning pedigree, the KTM 450 SX-F is a model developed in racing with victory in mind. A lot of this incredible bike’s success can be associated with legendary rider Antonio ‘Tony’ Cairoli, who continues to build a legacy thanks to his nine world championship titles and continued presence at the sharp end of the MXGP field. Cairoli helped shape the latest generation of this proven race-winner, which is simply the most competitive Motocross bike out on track. In tribute, KTM would like to announce the launch of the KTM 450 SX-F CAIROLI MY2020. This bike is even more READY TO RACE and like the KTM 250 SX-F PRADO, it enjoys exquisite features as well as exclusive Red Bull KTM Factory Racing graphics with Cairoli’s globally recognised ‘222’ number.

“My bike is something really special to me and over the years we have made so many big steps in development of the KTM 450 SX-F as we hunted success at the races. A lot of work went into the latest generation of the 450 and I love racing as much as I always have. To have this tribute from KTM is very humbling. To see riders out there with the number 222 on a bike that looks so much like my Red Bull KTM Factory Racing machine is really cool. It’s an exceptional bike that has been developed by the best engineers in the world, and this is a really special model. I look forward to seeing them out there,” said Cairoli. “

At KTM we are proud to have two of the world’s greatest Motocross athletes influence the development of our machines and we are happy to take full advantage of it. In celebration of Prado’s incredible season and in tribute to Cairoli’s continued success in MXGP we decided to build two special models that feature some premium components and a true Factory look, which will be available during the final quarter of 2019,” told KTM Senior Product Manager Offroad, Joachim Sauer

The KTM 450 SX-F CAIROLI will arrive at the end of October, whilst the KTM 250 SX-F PRADO will be available in December.

The KTM POWERWEAR MECHANIC COLLECTION is designed to meet the needs of racing’s unsung heroes. The long elasticated cuffs keep sleeves out the way when working in tight spaces, and excellent durability allows the team to wash their kit time and time again – so they look and feel fresh at the start of each round!

There’s one thing that can’t be missed in this collection; the colour. The KTM PowerWear ORANGE COLLECTION is unmistakably KTM and carries the shade of its namesake with verve and vigour. KTM is proud of its innovative approach to motorcycling, and no more so than the introduction of a new electrically powered junior machine, the KTM SX-E 5.

The result is a highly competitive electric minicycle with a comparable power output to the KTM 50 SX, yet with minimal maintenance and noise. The bike has six power modes allowing a complete beginner to step onto a READY TO RACE machine with ease, whilst the full power mode is exciting and challenging for the fastest junior. With a premium chassis developed by our KTM engineers, the KTM SX-E 5 is fully adjustable in terms of ride height, especially with the additional KTM PowerParts lowering kit, and is aimed at riders aged three to 10 years old. The bike grows with the rider both in ability, and in size – a special feature for this high-quality machine.

This innovative junior bike has an electric motor powered by an ultra-modern lithium-ion battery pack with a robust housing for maximum protection and safety was really at the core of the development of this new model. The power is smooth and controllable offering rideability benefits over other bikes in its class, whilst also providing fantastic agility on the motocross course. Like its combustion counterpart, the KTM SX-E 5 is fitted with WP XACT 35 air fork technology, as well as the WP XACT shock absorber, and it also features high-quality components such as premium disc brakes, cast footpegs, tapered aluminum handlebars and proper race ergonomics. In fact, the KTM SX-E 5 has undergone the same development process as the bigger SX models as raced by the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team. It’s truly an exciting, safe, innovative yet racy machine that will create new riding possibilities for riders and tracks in the future.

“The KTM SX-E 5 is a model we’re really excited to see arrive in dealers. It offers a premium chassis, like those on all of our SX models, but also a lot in terms of rideability thanks to the electric motor, as it’s easy to ride, but at the same time it can be super-fast without making noise. We tested the bike with such a wide range of riders; the complete beginner can ride on a track almost straight away with this bike as it’s so easy to ride, yet a national level rider can have comparable lap times to that of the combustion bike, which is something special. The adjustability of the bike means that a rider can use it for years as they get faster – they can also be more independent in the operation of the bike, and apart from oiling the chain there is really minimal maintenance required. In terms of safety the electronics team worked hard to reach a really high level, and so with top level performance combined with a huge adaptability for the rider, the KTM SX-E 5 is a fantastic new model in the KTM line-up,” said Joachim Sauer, KTM Senior Product Manager Offroad.

The e-mobility sector is becoming an important part of modern travel, and KTM has a dedicated R&D team working on this segment that are developing platforms for KTM’s future plans in e-powered motorcycles. This, combined with years of knowledge in creating premium sportmotorcycles, ensures that KTM is at the forefront of e-technology. KTM has announced it is committed to 4kw-18kw (peak power), low voltage motors and is working to adhere to the most stringent safety standards. The launch of the KTM SX-E 5 an exciting next chapter in KTM’s e-mobility story.

Following an outstanding season, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Cooper Webb won his first AMA Supercross 450 SX Championship

Webb, a two-time Western Regional 250 SX Champion, joined the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team at the end of 2018 and the American racer from North Carolina immediately went to work to pair himself with an all-new motorcycle and team. With 5-10 finishes in the first two rounds, the 23-year-old quickly found his stride, as he earned his first-career 450 SX victory by round three. The KTM ace repeated the win once again at round four, before going on to secure a total of seven Main Event victories allowing him to carry strong momentum into 17th and final round in Las Vegas.

Coming in with a 23-point advantage over the rest of the field, Webb played it safe at the final round. Qualifying fifth, the newly-crowned 450 SX Champion secured the holeshot in his heat and assumed the lead early on. With two laps to go, Webb felt some pressure from Eli Tomac and he quickly settled into the second-place position, shifting his focus towards the Main Event. With a solid gate choice for the main, Webb powered his KTM 450 SX-F into third off the start. From there, he maintained a consistent pace throughout the Main Event to score a third-place podium finish en-route to securing his first prestigious 2019 AMA Supercross 450 SX Championship, an FIM World Championship. KTM is also celebrating its 300th world title victory with Webb’s Supercross win.

Frenchman Musquin concluded his season with a second-place finish for a superb third position in the final championship standings. Musquin recovered from a pre-season knee injury to be in the title fight until the penultimate round with 11 podium finishes including two victories to his name at the series’ finale.

Cooper Webb: “It’s been an incredible journey. This KTM team believed in me, they took me in and transformed me back to where I always knew I could be. This year was not expected at all and I can’t thank them enough for giving me this opportunity to get back into this level and to do it this way is unreal. It’s a dream come true, I’ve had it since I was a little kid. It’s an incredible feeling.”

Marvin Musquin: “I was looking for one more step than last year but overall it was a decent year. I gave my best this season and that’s all I could do. A little bit of mistakes and the end of the year took me out of the fight but I’m looking forward to next year and getting ready for outdoors.”

Ian Harrison (Red Bull KTM Team Manager): “It’s a little surreal right now to win this championship with Cooper. I’ve been through it before many times with Roger [De Coster] but to be in this position – it hasn’t quite sunk in. Going from finishing ninth in the championship last season, we weren’t expecting too much from Cooper in the beginning – we were hoping for one win. Once he got the one, then he did it again and his confidence went up from there and he really managed his races well. I think he was outstanding, but at the last round in New York when he wasn’t feeling well and he came through in the clutch time with a win, that’s the test of a true champion and he did it. Marvin was super impressive this season. He started the year off with a knee injury and not riding very much and I was amazed at how well he kept his fitness up and how well he adapted to the surroundings and the championship chase and he got himself in there quickly. For a while there, he was in the hunt for the title, too. At the end, he had a few things that didn’t go his way and he lost a little steam but I think it was an outstanding season for him and I’m super proud of him.”

Pit Beirer (KTM Motorsports Director): “We are very proud to have won the 2019 AMA Supercross 450 SX Championship. I would like to congratulate Cooper, Marvin and the entire Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team on their hard work to be at the sharp end of the races week in, week out and for realizing our dream of another championship. For Cooper to have become part of this team and win right away is special; it’s a credit to all of our staff including Ian, Aldon and Roger who were able to help Cooper unlock his potential, find good momentum and reach our goal – something we work hard at in KTM. But the energy, passion and determination of our people extends much further than the team – in motorsport, R&D and beyond, everyone in KTM is working hard for this, so I would like to thank and congratulate all of those involved in this project. Our offroad success story continues – I’m happy that we can celebrate this achievement and enjoy this moment.”

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team will enjoy one weekend off from racing before jumping into the opening round of the 2019 AMA Pro Motocross Championship in Sacramento, California on Saturday, May 18.

Judd Orange Brigade extends to twelve riders.

KTM UK’s Official Motocross Youth Team, the Judd Orange Brigade, is looking to increase its ranks with new team riders to compete in the 2019 Judd KTM British Youth National Championship. The current squad of seven is due to expand to twelve to cater for two riders in each class of the series; 50cc, 65cc, 85cc small wheel, 85cc big wheel, 125cc, and 250cc.

The inaugural season of the team has been a highly successful one. With two rounds remaining in the 2018 series, three of the seven Judd Orange Brigade riders currently lead their championships – with five competing for the top three places. Team riders have also benefited from a KTM UK organised Bootcamp which saw riders get expert coaching, WP Suspension support, sports psychology sessions and media training.

The 2019 Judd Orange Brigade squad members will run under the team’s extensive set-up at all BYN events and be provided with comprehensive support from KTM UK. The package includes two race machines supplied at a subsidised cost that are then complimented with a comprehensive KTM PowerParts package. Racers will be kitted out in full KTM PowerWear and a healthy spares budget is incorporated. WP Suspension Pro Component upgrades are also available at a subsidised cost. This means that when each rider comes to each race they are primed with the best machinery beneath them. On top of this, 2019 will see an enhanced KTM Bootcamp programme to develop each rider’s skills.

Michelle Arnold, Judd Racing Managing Director, said: “We’ve had a fantastic season so far and really seen our riders develop and advance throughout the championship. Being supported by KTM UK we are able to offer our squad the machines, coaching and support they need to progress – and this is certainly something we’re looking to expand on in 2019.

“Moving forwards, it has always been the intention to have two team riders in each youth class and I'm pleased to say we're now putting this in place with KTM UK for the 2019 season. The reason to enlarge the team is to successfully manage the progression and continuity of each rider’s achievements. When stepping up in an age group, we need to aid the development of each rider’s skills whilst still challenging in every youth class.”

Commenting on the developments, Matt Walker, KTM UK Managing Director“The Judd Orange Brigade has seen a huge amount of success in a short space of time across a wide spectrum of the KTM SX range. KTM UK is committed to its READY TO RACE ethos and we’re taking the necessary steps to support and develop our junior team as they progress forward.

“Aside from the material support, an example of our investment in the Judd Orange Brigade is our intensive two day Bootcamp for the team at Apex Motocross in Worcestershire. Here they received advanced coaching, gained access to a WP Authorized Center to aid them with their suspension set-up, as well as enjoyed a sports psychology session and media training. It was fantastic to see the improvements throughout the Bootcamp, which was an unprecedented success. We’re looking forward to the Judd Orange Brigade getting bigger and better in 2019.”

To celebrate Jeffrey Herlings’ outstanding FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship title win in front of his home fans in Assen, The Netherlands, KTM is excited to announce the launch of a special edition motocross model the KTM 450 SX-F HERLINGS REPLICA.

Herlings has truly endured the highs and lows of motocross dominating the majority of races during 2018 despite sustaining a collarbone injury mid-season. The 24-year-old clinched his first FIM MXGP World Championship victory at the penultimate round of the series and has gone on to achieve an incredible 14 1-1 moto finishes so far this season. The KTM 450 SX-F HERLINGS REPLICA was unveiled by the four-time world champion during a media event in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands – the venue of many victories for ‘The Bullet’.

The KTM 450 SX-F HERLINGS REPLICA is a limited quantity European model and will be arriving in dealers in January 2019. The factory-looking dirtbike enjoys an array of upgrades over the standard model including an Akrapovic Slip-on silencer, Hinson factory clutch clover and fuel tank with machined fuel tank cap.

The bike, which is the most READY TO RACE machine on offer in KTM’s motocross line-up, boasts Factory wheels with anodized hubs, a Factory triple clamp, a composite skid plate, a Factory seat with Selle Dalla Valle logo, a front brake disc guard, a Factory start device for the fork, and an orange rear sprocket. This 4-speed model also has unique Red Bull KTM graphics with Herlings’ design and a Factory-looking orange frame.

“I was so pumped when I was told there would be a KTM 450 SX-F HERLINGS REPLICA. I’ve been with KTM all the way through my career, and we’ve worked through the hard times and celebrated a lot together – we are a family, not just in the paddock, but back in Austria too, so this bike is really special to me. This year has been incredible for us with the results, and even with the injury I was able to come back strong and win the championship. To do it in front of my home crowd was amazing. It’s an honour to have a bike out there replicating my race bike – I hope the customers out there really like it,” said Jeffrey Herlings.

Herlings has won 31 from 38 motos so far this season to take the MXGP series’ win, while teammate Tony Cairoli secured second in the standings ahead of the final round in Imola, Italy.

“Jeffrey’s season is a great story and he has been outstanding – we are proud to see him take the FIM MXGP Motocross World Championship title win. Towards the end of last season he was so strong, and also winning the race in America was a highlight for him, but this year has just been immense. Following on from the CAIROLI REPLICA we released some years ago, we wanted to honour Jeffrey’s achievements with the KTM 450 SX-F HERLINGS REPLICA. This model has a special specification with Herlings’ design and is a great package for European riders looking for the ultimate READY TO RACE machine,” commented Joachim Sauer, KTM Senior Product Manager Offroad

Herlings and KTM clinch the MXGP 2018 title

KTM riders have led the way in both the FIM MXGP and the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship classes this year, and in the MXGP category it was Herlings and Tony Cairoli battling from the start of the season, with Herlings taking at least a podium finish at every round he has raced so far. It was an incredible story for the Dutch star, as mid-season Herlings defied the odds by returning from a collarbone injury sustained in a practice crash that forced him to miss a round of the series, to truly dominate the second half of the championship earning 14 1-1 moto finishes in total. A warrior in all conditions, 24-year-old Herlings only finished lower than second place in a moto once all season whilst winning 31 of the 36 motos he has raced, and the KTM ace clinched the title after the first moto in Assen. KTM has won all but one of the 38 motos this season.

Herlings has progressed through the ranks with the Austrian manufacturer and previously won three world titles in the smaller capacity class aboard KTM machinery. The Dutch ace is only the third rider to have won both FIM MX2 and FIM MXGP World Championship medals, and it was an emotional moment for ‘The Bullet’ to win his first MXGP series’ victory in his homeland. Teammate Tony Cairoli is one of only two other riders that have beaten Herlings this season. With a pair of second place moto finishes in Assen, the Sicilian secured the runner-up position aboard his KTM 450 SX-F, which reiterates the strength of KTM’s racing program, and demonstrates the brand’s READY TO RACE promise.

Herlings: “It has been an amazing day and it was a blessing to be in my shoes. Everyone had been saying ‘enjoy the day’ but it just ‘went’! To do this in front of my home crowd here at the TT Circuit Assen is amazing: a special day and it was nice to do it in style. I pretty much led the whole of the first moto and then in between races it was hard to stay focussed because there are many friends, family, sponsors who want to congratulate you and I couldn't really do my normal routine! I tried to pass Glenn in the second moto but I went down and had to pick up from tenth position and then work to get back to the lead. I managed to get a little gap over Tony. It was a great day and it has been a special year. Going 1-1, winning the championship, home crowd: enough said. I have to give it up to Red Bull KTM; we’ve been together through this all the way so a big thanks to all the team and all the guys at the factory.”

Pit Beirer (KTM Motorsports Director): It has been a very special season for KTM, and we are so proud to see Jeffrey win the MXGP World Championship title. Jeffrey has grown with us over the years, and while he has always been an exceptional talent, he has matured into a rider that is nothing short of incredible. Of course, when he was injured in the middle of the season we were concerned, but while we have seen so many victories this year we should not forget the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, from Jeffrey himself and all of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team. I’d like to thank everyone who contributed to this success, and KTM’s seventh title win in MXGP, but especially I’d like congratulate Jeffrey for his approach and determination to achieve this goal and his fourth world title. This is a poignant moment for us and we will certainly be celebrating together.”

Heading into the final race of the season in Imola, Italy, and 17-year-old Jorge Prado heads the MX2 World Championship standings from teammate Pauls Jonass, who led the series until round 14 of 20. Since Prado took his first red plate, the duo has been battling for supremacy week in, week out with the Spanish ace currently having the upper-hand over the 2017 World Champion Jonass, who hails from Latvia. The KTM 250 SX-F has so far won 30 from 38 motos this season, completely dominating the top of the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship standings.

Dakar Rally win for Matthias Walkner

17th consecutive Dakar Rally win for KTM

Having covered nearly 9,000 km of the most challenging terrain through Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, Toby Pricebrought his KTM machine home for a podium finish, placing third having battled to the end following his return to competitive riding at the event. Antoine Meo placed an impressive fourth with Gerard Farres Guell in fifth. Laia Sanzwas 12th overall having concluded yet another incredible ride, although it was Matthias Walkner who capitalized on his navigational skills to take the victory.

Walkner, who entered the final timed special stage of the rally with a healthy 22-minute lead over his nearest competitor, has unquestionably put in a champion’s performance at this year’s event – the 40th edition of the Rally Dakar. The former FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Champion has ridden intelligently from the very first stage, finding the right balance between out-and-out speed and error-free navigation. Stage 10 was again a game-changer in the rally, when 31-year-old Walkner ended the day with an almost 30-minute advantage over his nearest competitors.

Having held his nerve and on reaching the finish of Saturday’s 14th and final stage in eighth position, Walkner took the 2018 Rally Dakar victory and became the first Austrian motorcycle rider to do so – a well-deserved, historic achievement.

Matthias Walkner: “It’s unbelievable – I can’t describe how it feels. This year’s Dakar has been so difficult, easily the toughest rally of my career. Navigation has been tricky pretty much every day. At the beginning of the race, all the top guys were so close with not much time between us. I just tried to keep on doing well each day without making any mistakes. Things were so tight right up to my stage victory. After that I aimed to finish each day safely and get to the end of the rally without losing my advantage. Luckily the tactics worked out and I’m here at the end now as the winner and it feels unreal. Thank you to my team and everyone that has supported me – we did it!”

Finishing as runner-up on the final stage, Toby Price did everything he could to close down the gap on the riders in front of him. Playing catch up following an unfortunate navigational error earlier in the rally, Price’s speed in the final stages of the event was phenomenal. His results secured third place in the overall standings, an amazing feat considering the 2018 Rally Dakar is the Australian’s first competitive outing since injury forced him out of the 2017 event.

Toby Price: “The final stage is over and it went really well. I’m happy to get to the finish line; that was always the main goal right from the start. I tried to push today to make up the time on Kevin (Benavides) but halfway through I knew five minutes was just too much and so I just aimed for a safe finish. To finish the Dakar is an achievement in itself, to come away at the end of this year’s race with a podium is unbelievable, especially after the year I’ve had. The whole team have come together and worked so hard, none of us could do it without them. I’ll concentrate on the 2018 season now and try to get a little stronger and come back here next year looking for the top-step.”

Similarly to his teammate, Antoine Meo’s 2017 season has been plagued with injury. Coming into the Dakar the Frenchman’s goal was simply to get to the finish. Two stage wins and a successful rally later, Meo has placed an impressive fourth overall, a great achievement considering the difficulty of this year’s event.

Antoine Meo: “I am so happy to complete the race in one piece. Today (Saturday) was difficult, not because of the length of the stage but because we had to wait around a bit and it was hard to maintain concentration. I tried to push early on, but after making a small mistake I caught a truck in an awkward part of the track and lost some time stuck behind him. I had a couple of crashes this year but nothing too bad. I’m happy with how things have gone and would like to thank the team for getting us through it this year.”

Laia Sanz never ceases to impress. Despite two big crashes on the closing stages of the race, the Spaniard gritted her teeth and kept on going. Always close to the top 10, Laia eventually completed the Dakar in 12th overall. The multiple Enduro World Champion was over the moon with her performance.

Laia Sanz: “I am so happy to get to the finish, I am really pleased with my position too – it has been a very tough rally. I had two big crashes, which luckily didn’t cause too much damage to me or the bike. I am exhausted now but feel good because I am here, safely at the finish. I want to thank all the team for their help and now it’s finally time to relax.”

Pit Beirer (KTM Motorsport Director): “It goes without saying that winning the Rally Dakar for the 17th consecutive time is an incredible achievement for KTM. I’d like to congratulate Matthias on his first victory at the event in what was an exceptionally tough race. This result is a testament to the hard work of everyone involved, from our R&D department in Mattighofen, to the team on the ground in South America, and I’m proud that it has paid off yet again, especially with the new KTM 450 RALLY machine. Our warriors have certainly delivered, and now we can celebrate and enjoy the stories of this year’s race.”
