Jorge Casales fifth in 2020 X-Trial World Championship

GASGAS Factory Racing conclude shortened X-Trial series within touching distance of the final championship podium

GASGAS Factory Racing’s Jorge Casales has been confirmed as having finished fifth in the 2020 FIM X-Trial World Championship, following the cancellation of the final two rounds of the series due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Competing in four of the five events held, Jorge’s best result came at the X-Trial of Barcelona, where he finished third overall.

At the opening round of the FIM X-Trial World Championship, X-Trial Reunion Island, Jorge finished an encouraging fifth overall on his GASGAS TXT GP 300 machine – his debut indoor event for GASGAS Factory Racing.

Not competing in the second round of the series, Casales returned to action at round three – X-Trial Budapest. Despite many weeks of focused training and preparations ahead of the event, a tough night inside the city’s Sport Arena nevertheless saw the Spaniard match his opening round result in fifth.

Round four of the series was unquestionably the highlight of the championship for both Jorge and GASGAS Factory Racing. Competing in front of his home crowd, Casales not only secured his best result of the 2020 X-Trial series but also claimed his first ever indoor podium result. In finishing third alongside countrymen Toni Bou and Adam Raga, Jorge lifted himself to fifth in the X-Trial championship.

Although unbeknown to all riders at the time, the X-Trial Bilbao was to be the final round of the 2020 FIM X-Trial World Championship. Finishing fifth on the night, Jorge ends the series in fifth position, tied on points with fourth-placed Benoit Bincaz and just six points behind third-placed Jeroni Fajardo.

With the 2020 FIM X-Trial World Championship over, the FIM X-Trial of Nations is due to take place on the rescheduled date of November 6, inside the Arena Stade in Liévin, France.

Jorge Casales: “It’s a shame that the season has to end earlier than expected, but clearly the current situation is more important that motorsport. At the last event, in Bilbao, things didn’t go so well, so the next event in Andorra was very important to me as an opportunity to gain championship points. I was preparing myself well for that race but with how the situation is at the moment it’s time to stay home and hope that the situation improves soon. Then I will get ready for the Trial World Championship. We will also push for the Spanish championship, which we lead at the moment – I’m really focused on the start of the outdoor season. I want to thank the team for the work done and the effort that everyone puts in. I’m really happy with the new team, my first year back at GASGAS, and being able to make a podium in the X-Trial series was great. We keep improving every week.”

Determined performances from GASGAS Factory Racing at MXGP of the Netherlands

Strong overall results for Coldenhoff, Sydow and Lagenfelder at challenging second round of Motocross World Championship

GASGAS Factory Racing have enjoyed three top-10 overall results at round two of the FIM Motocross World Championship, the MXGP of The Netherlands at the iconic Valkenswaard circuit. Racing in the MXGP class for Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing, Glenn Coldenhoff overcame first lap crashes in both races to end the GP with 7-9 results, earning seventh overall. The DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors pairing of Simon Langenfelder and Jeremy Sydow stole the show in the second MX2 moto. Racing together as they battled at the front of the field, Langenfelder placed fifth in just the second GP of his career to earn 10th overall while Sydow recorded 14-8 results for eighth overall.

Glenn Coldenhoff made a great start in the opening MXGP race, running as high as sixth place, before coming together with another rider on the opening lap. The Dutchman remounted and fought through the talent-stacked MXGP field to break into the top-10 on lap 11 of the 17-lap race. On the penultimate lap, Glenn moved into ninth position where he remained until the finish.

A first turn crash in race two saw Coldenhoff trapped in Clement Desalle’s bike, resulting in a burn to his leg. Despite this, and a subsequent additional fall, Coldenhoff remounted and ended the opening lap in 32nd before beginning a race-long charge to the front. Making more late race passes, he moved into seventh place to also earn seventh overall in the MXGP class. Glenn now moves up to sixth in the MXGP series standings ahead of round three in Argentina in two weeks’ time.

Ivo Monticelli recorded a strong first MXGP moto finish in Valkenswaard. Running as high as 13th early in the race, he dropped back to 16th on lap five before latching onto the back of teammate Coldenhoff who was on his own charge through the field. Running in 14th place at the midway stage of the race, the Italian went on to finish the moto in 15th. A great start in the second race saw the MC 450F mounted rider running in sixth place early in the moto before a big crash saw the Italian land on his shoulder, which led to an early end to his race.

Placing eighth overall in the MX2 class was DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors’ Jeremy Sydow. Continuing to collect valuable points in his first full season of MX2 World Championship competition, the youngster ended race one in a strong 14th position. Finishing a superb eighth in the second moto, Sydow placed eighth overall and moves up three places to 10th in the championship standings.

Simon Langenfelder narrowly missed out on a points scoring ride in race one, ending the moto in 21st position despite a heavy fall. Making a huge step forward in moto two, a top-10 start saw the 15-year-old, in just his second GP, run in a strong third position for no fewer than six laps. Relinquishing pressure from two much more experienced rivals in the closing stages of the moto, the young German remained composed and finished the moto in fifth place, earning his first ever MX2 World Championship points.

Both Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and the DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors will next be in action at round three of the FIM Motocross World Championship on March 22, at the MXGP of Patagonia Argentina.

Glenn Coldenhoff: “For sure not the results that I wanted as I was confident that I had the speed and fitness to be on the podium, but things just didn’t go the way I needed them to. Everyone knows I love the sand, and especially when it’s deep and demanding like it was this weekend. To get on the podium you have to be up front during the opening laps and frustratingly that didn’t happen for me. Things started well in the first moto and I got a solid start. But around the first lap I came together with another rider and that put me dead last, so I had a lot of work to do. I got back up to ninth, but of course I wanted a better result than that. The second race went wrong at the first corner. I crashed with Clement Desalle and got both my legs between his rear wheel and exhaust and burned my leg. I got going, fell again on the first lap, and, yeah, not what we’d hoped for. It’s always tough when you don’t get the result you know you can achieve, especially when you’re enjoying the track and conditions. But we’ll keep working and look forward to Argentina.”

Ivo Monticelli: “This has been a better weekend that the first GP because I took some points in the first race, but it’s also been a difficult GP with a heavy crash in the second race. I wasn’t able to ride too much before Valkenswaard because I needed a lot of massage and physio on the shoulder that I hurt at Matterley, so I was expecting things to be difficult. I managed to find a good rhythm in the first moto, and I was happy, also not too far from the top 10. So, to score some points was good. In the second race I had a good start, but then I crashed really heavily, went over the handlebars and landed on my shoulder again. I’m hoping nothing is damaged badly but we will get it checked and work on getting back to full fitness.”

Successfully completing the 2020 Dakar Rally, Laia Sanz will head GASGAS’ rally efforts while Taddy Blazusiak will spearhead the brand’s participation in the WESS Enduro World Championship. Glenn Coldenhoff places eighth overall at MXGP round one

Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing rider earns strong 6-6 results at opening round of 2020 Motocross World Championship

GASGAS Factory Racing have successfully completed their participation in the opening round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, the MXGP of Great Britain held at Matterley Basin. Ensuring a memorable weekend at the start of their first full season of MXGP and MX2 class competition, Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing’s Glenn Coldenhoff secured two impressive sixth-place results aboard his MC 450F machine.

With high winds and heavy rain prior to the event, forcing organisers to drastically change Saturday’s practice and qualifying schedule, Coldenhoff was one of a number of riders unable to complete a satisfactory lap. At the end of the challenging 20-minute qualifying session, he secured the 18th fastest time, with teammate Ivo Monticelli 25th fastest.

The opening MXGP moto saw Coldenhoff start well, completing the first lap in sixth and then continuing to ride strongly throughout the race. Moving forward to fifth on lap two, Glenn held his position until lap seven when he dropped back one place to sixth, where he stayed until the chequered flag. Glenn completed the first moto just 30 seconds behind race winner Jeffrey Herlings.

Although not getting such a good start in the second race, Coldenhoff nevertheless completed the opening lap inside the top 10, before battling back-and-forth between eighth and ninth throughout the opening nine laps. In moving into seventh on lap 10 he showed impressive late-race speed, continuing to push hard during the closing laps of the race. Moving into sixth on lap 11 he rounded out the race without mistakes to match his first moto result and bring the season’s opening GP to a positive close.

Earning 30 world championship points from the MXGP of Great Britain, Coldenhoff sits just eight points behind second placed Tim Gajser heading into round two.

For Coldenhoff’s teammate Ivo Monticelli the first round of the 2020 MXGP series was a challenging one. Showing strong form to work his way to 10th following a 15th place start, the Italian looked set for a promising opening-moto result. Pushing hard, a fall resulted in the Italian landing heavily on his elbow, which resulted in pain in his left shoulder. Forced to bring his first race to an early end, he then ran as high as 15th in the second moto before another fall saw him drop back to an eventual 24th.

The DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors team saw Jeremy Sydow collect 15 MX2 championship points having finished a deserved 13th overall. A strong 12th place finish in race one was followed by a 15th in moto two. In his very first GP, 15-year-old Simon Langenfelder posted a 29-29 result to kickstart his MX2 World Championship career.

In the EMX125 class Guillem Farres finished just outside the top 10 in 12th overall following 16-12 results while David Braceras finished 19th overall after a second race 13th place result.

Glenn Coldenhoff: “It was a solid weekend for me, two sixth-place finishes is a very good start to the championship. Qualifying yesterday wasn’t great, which didn’t give me the greatest gate pick for today’s races. But it was what is was and this morning in warm-up I felt great and posted the third fastest time. That gave me some confidence heading into the races. My first moto start wasn’t great, but I pulled through from around 10th to sixth, so it was good to get the championship started with a positive result. The second moto was very similar to the first. I felt good, felt like my speed was there and had some good battles. I know that if my starts are better I can fight with the guys that were ahead of me this weekend. I’m looking forward to the next GP, it’s one of my favourites and I hope to get some solid results there too.”

Ivo Monticelli: “It’s been a tough weekend for me. In the first race I didn’t get a good start, but I worked my way from 15th to 10th in the first lap, so that was good. I was pushing to improve and then made a mistake in a corner. I landed heavily on my left elbow and felt a lot of pain in my shoulder. I was worried that I had done some damage, so I stopped my race. The good news was that noting was serious and after some time it started to feel better. With some ice and some time to recover I was ready for the second race. I wasn’t sure what I could do in the second moto, but I wanted to see what I could do. I crashed again, and, well it hasn’t been a good weekend. There were some positives from this first GP, but now I have to put these results behind me and focus on next weekend.”

Both Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and the DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors will continue their FIM Motocross World Championship campaigns on March 8, at the MXGP of The Netherlands.

GASGAS Motorcycles take to the start of FIM Motocross World Championship

Historic new chapter begins as Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors contest the opening World Championship event of 2020

GASGAS Motorcycles will start an exciting new chapter in their offroad motorsport history this weekend as they step into the FIM Motocross World Championship for the first time. In what is a key moment for the brand as it expands to compete in top-level motocross alongside its trial, rally and planned enduro activities, the opening round of the MXGP and MX2 series will see GASGAS represented by Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing and DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors in the MXGP and MX2 classes respectively.

Becoming a part of PIERER Mobility AG at the end of 2019, GASGAS Motorcycles will benefit from the groups shared-platform strategy, alongside other brands within the company. Faced with a minimal amount of time in which to be ready for the MXGP season opener, the specification of both the MC 250F and MC 450F machines used at Matterley Basin and throughout early-season GPs will evolve in-line with the arrival of the 2021 GASGAS Motorcycles production models.

Making GASGAS’ presence felt in the MXGP class, Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing will lead the brand into premier class competition. Glenn Coldenhoff, who placed third in last year’s series, comes into 2020 fit, healthy and looking to challenge for race wins. With impressive racing credentials, which include four overall GP wins and a pair of unbeaten performances at the two most recent editions of the Motocross of Nations, Coldenhoff begins the season in high spirits and as GASGAS’ MXGP team leader.

Ivo Monticelli completes Standing Construct GASGAS Factory Racing’s MXGP line-up. Continuing with Standing Construct for a second season, Ivo will look to harness his attacking riding style and post consistent results for both GASGAS and himself. During 2019, Monticelli placed a career-best fifth overall at the MXGP of Trentino, highlighting just what the Italian is capable of.

GASGAS Motorcycles are represented in the MX2 class by the DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors team. Fielding a young pair of talented Germans – Jeremy Sydow and Simon Langenfelder – the squad and their riders are aiming for top-10 results in their first full season of world championship participation. Sydow placed sixth in the final EMX 250 championship standings in 2019 and raced one MX2 GP where he posted an impressive 13th overall.

Glenn Coldenhoff: “It’s great to be a rider on a brand that is new to MXGP and to be a part of GASGAS’s history is an amazing feeling. I’m looking forward to making some good results and I’ve been working really hard over the winter months. There are some expectations from the team and also from myself, but we are racing MXGP and the goal is to win, so hopefully we can make that happen.”

Ivo Monticelli: “It’s a new bike and a new project and I’m really happy with what the team and GASGAS have provided me with. I’ve had a great off-season and I’ve been preparing the best that I can to ensure that I’m ready for the season. I’m ready to get on the gas!”

Jeremy Sydow: “It’s a really great opportunity for me to be a part of the DIGA Procross GASGAS Factory Juniors team. It will be my second year with this team and I’m really happy with my bike and appreciate the trust that they have in me. I can’t wait to race this season and I’ll be giving my best effort at all times to be the best rider that I can be.”
