Round 2 of the Bridgestone British Masters Motocross Championship took place at Sherwood MX last weekend, 12th and 13th June 2021. It was to be another scorching weekend of glorious sunshine and heat, despite these conditions the circuit was in perfect condition for the riders all weekend, with plenty of watering in between races.
The GRT Holeshot KTM squad for the weekend consisted of Ollie Colmer on his KTM 125SX in the 125cc class, Finley Evans on his KTM 85SX in the Big Wheel 85cc class, and Teddy Merriman on his KTM 65SX in the Junior 65cc class.
Finley Evans has been struggling with confidence the last few weeks, but this weekend seemed to signal a change in his fortunes. A strong P5 in qualifying whist trying some new techniques gave him confidence for the 1st moto. In race 1 Finley had a mediocre start and had to work his way up through the field, by the time he took 2nd position the leader had an unassailable gap. Finley battled for 2nd place all race, unfortunately a mistake on the last lap leaving him in 3rd position. A strong ride in race 2 left Finley in 2nd place and feeling confident for Sundays motos. Another 2nd place followed up with a 3rd in the last moto meant 2nd overall for Finley for the weekend, he now sits in 2nd position in the Bridgestone British Masters Motocross Championship.
Ollie Colmer has had a superb season so far, and although Sherwood isn’t his favourite track, Ollie took a strong P3 in qualification. Ollie found it hard to pass all weekend but had reasonable starts and held his positions giving him P4, P4 and P3 in the first 3 races. Unfortunately in the last race of the weekend, Ollie crashed hard out of 3rd position when right behind the leaders, he bravely remounted and finished the race in 21st position to salvage some points and take a solid 6th overall for the weekend.
Teddy Merriman is really enjoying his first year of National level competition on his Holeshot Motocross supplied KTM 65SX and it shows in his riding, learning more and more every time he goes out on the bike. With a full gate of 39 65cc pilots Teddy had a decent qualifying to finish in 26th position. After a National PB of P21 in race one, Teddy backed that up with a P25 in race 2 to conclude Saturday’s proceedings. Another PB and strong performance in the first race on Sunday for P19 was followed by P27 in race 4, and 23rd overall for the weekend.
Jon Giffard, GRT Holeshot KTM Team Manager said ‘It was tough conditions for the boys at the weekend, the hot weather and super rough track were ultra-challenging – we’re really proud of all the boys and their performances. Teddy is improving all the time and hitting his and our goals, Ollie was unlucky with his crash on Sunday but still finished well in the points and Finley was the standout performer this weekend after a couple of tough weeks and now sits in 2nd place in this Championship. We’re looking forward to some more sunshine and big crowds at Foxhill this weekend for the MXGB Championship.’ The GRT Holeshot KTM Team would like to say a huge thank you to all of our sponsors and supporters. The Teams next outing will be this Saturday 19th June at Foxhill near Swindon for round 4 of the REVO ACU British Motocross Championship.
